In the early 1950s, land was acquired here in Koru, and a new factory built with a capacity of 90 tonnes per day. 

Athi River Mining (Kenya) Ltd (ARM) was established in 1974 by Mr. H.J Paunrana as a mineral, extraction and processing company and is now a public limited company quoted on the Nairobi Stock Exchange since 1997.
